Reforestation is a natural process, occurring as a result
of land clearing. After forest fires or other natural disasters,
nature has a way of regenerating itself.
With
proper management, timber harvesting and
artificial replanting can benefit the environment,
while at the same time they provide a cash crop for
the owner of the land.
Over 80
percent of the land tracts harvested by Seaboard Timber are artificially
replanted--reforested.
A
replanted stand of pine can be thinned in
approximately 15 years. For maximum growth, the thinning process
tries to achieve 108 trees per acre
as soon as possible.
Reforestation
assures a future income to
the landowner and to future generations.
