It doesn't take expensive or fancy equipment to feed birds.
All you need to know are a few basics, such as
what birds like to eat, and where they
like to eat.
Some
birds feed on the ground:
towhees, brown thrashers,
quail, doves, fox sparrows, and many others.
Other
birds prefer to feed out in an open area
where they have a clear view if a predator should happen by.
These birds include most of the songbirds, such as
cardinals, titmice, chickadees, etc.

Common household or natural items can be used
to feed the birds. For instance, a plastic gallon
milk jug can have a few holes punched in the bottom
for moisture drainage and have a large hole cut in
one side to allow birds to enter. Suspended from
a tree limb, this will suffice quite well for holding
sunflower seeds, suet, or wildbird seeds.

A large open pinecone can be spread with
PB and Raisins and suspended from a tree
limb.
